ATEX Zone 1 / 21 Tablets for Hazardous Areas

Once a site application requires a tablet certified for Zone 1 / 21, the more useful question is what the device needs to do while it is there. Modern ATEX tablets can provide access to maintenance software, inspection records, drawings, asset information, communication platforms and other business applications directly within the hazardous area, reducing the need to move between the worksite and a conventional computer or safe-area device.

The Exloc Zone 1 / 21 tablet range includes both Android and Windows options, allowing the operating system to be matched to existing software and IT requirements. Depending on the device, connectivity can include 4G, 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC, with cameras, programmable controls and industrial interfaces extending the ways the tablet can be used in the field. Larger 10.1-inch devices provide more working space for drawings, forms and detailed applications, while more compact tablets can be easier to carry during inspections and maintenance rounds.

Hardware requirements should be considered alongside software compatibility. Battery arrangement can be important where a tablet needs to remain available throughout a shift, while docking, mounting and interface options matter when the device will form part of a wider system. The IS940.1 and IS945.1, for example, can also be integrated into a Mobile Operator Panel configuration, allowing the tablet to operate as a fixed operator interface when docked and return to mobile use when removed.

Exloc supplies a range of intrinsically safe ATEX Zone 1 / 21 tablets, including the compact i.safe MOBILE IS930.1, the 5G Android IS940.1, the Windows-based IS945.1 and the Aegex100M. This gives organisations a choice of operating systems, screen formats, connectivity and integration options rather than treating hazardous-area certification as the only selection criterion.

If you need help selecting an ATEX tablet for a Zone 1 / 21 application, Exloc can help assess the required software, connectivity, operating environment and integration requirements to identify the most appropriate device.
