D2000 Intrinsically Safe Multiplexer System

Hazardous area signal acquisition for temperature, analogue and digital inputs

The G.M. International D2000 Series is an intrinsically safe multiplexer system designed for collecting multiple signals from hazardous area sensors and transmitting them to a gateway in the safe area.

It is particularly useful in applications where a high number of temperature, analogue or digital signals need to be collected from the field and made available to a PLC, DCS or PC. By transferring multiple variables through a single or redundant communication line, the D2000 system helps reduce field wiring, simplify installation and minimise the amount of cabinet space required.

What is the D2000 system used for?

In process plants and hazardous area installations, large numbers of field signals often need to be gathered from sensors, switches or proximity detectors and transmitted back to the control system.

The D2000 system provides a structured way to collect these signals close to the field, including temperature and digital input data, before sending the information to a safe area gateway for communication with plant control systems.

    Typical applications include:

    • Temperature measurement in hazardous areas
    • Analogue signal collection from field sensors
    • Digital input collection from contacts and proximity detectors
    • Reducing cabling between hazardous and safe areas
    • Connecting high-density field signals to PLC, DCS or PC systems
    • Process monitoring applications where simplified wiring and reliable data acquisition are important

    Key Benefits

    Reduced wiring and installation complexity

The D2000 system allows multiple field signals to be transferred through a single or redundant communication line to the gateway. This can significantly reduce the amount of cabling required between the field and the control system.

    High-density signal acquisition

The system supports high-density input collection, making it suitable for installations with large numbers of temperature, analogue or digital signals.

    Designed for hazardous areas

D2000 field units are designed for hazardous area installation, with units mounted in Zone 1 or Zone 2 and used to acquire signals from sensors located in Zone 0, Zone 1 or Zone 2, depending on the system configuration and certification requirements.

    Safe area integration

The D2050M gateway communicates with PC, PLC or DCS systems, supporting integration with existing plant control architecture.

    Redundant communication options

The system supports redundant field communication and power lines, helping improve reliability in demanding process environments.

    Lower cabinet and I/O requirements

By collecting multiple signals through the multiplexer system, the D2000 can help reduce the need for individual PLC or DCS I/O cards and simplify cabinet layouts.

    How the D2000 system works

The D2000 system is used to collect multiple field signals from sensors located in hazardous areas and transmit them back to a gateway in the safe area.

In a typical installation, temperature, analogue or digital signals are connected to D2000 field units installed close to the sensors. These field units collect the signal data and send it through a single or redundant communication line to the D2050M gateway.

The gateway is installed in the safe area and communicates with the plant control system, such as a PLC, DCS or PC.

This approach can help reduce the amount of field wiring required, simplify installation and make it easier to manage large numbers of signals from hazardous area applications.

    A typical system may include:

    • Field sensors in the hazardous area
    • D2000 multiplexer units installed close to those sensors
    • A communication link back to the safe area
    • A D2050M gateway connected to the control system

The exact configuration depends on the number and type of signals being collected, the hazardous area classification and the requirements of the wider control system.
